Acceptance through Education
Being elected Mr. Leather Ireland 2016 at GEARED IRELAND’s Three King Event in January 2016, has given me a unique and priceless opportunity to give back to my community the same support and education that I was given as a young leather man all those years ago, and to work closely with my fellow leather brothers in GEARED IRELAND. We are a progressive community group in Ireland, still somewhat in our infancy within our own LGBT community. We have gotten fantastic support from all the ECMC community groups, and I hope to present my club for full membership to this organisation of European clubs later this year in Helsinki at the ECMC AGM.
GEARED IRELAND promotes, encourages, endorses and educates fetish newcomers by providing a safe haven, a place to practice in a safe environment, a place to feel that you belong. But we have a long way to go. It’s a big challenge getting fetish recognition in the mainstream and indeed in the gay press here in Ireland. This is something I want to change. It's a mindset that needs to be changed, and I want to use my year as Mr. Leather Ireland to help to change this through particular initiatives which I hope to introduce throughout my year.
Ireland has become a nation of acceptance with our marriage and gender law reforms in 2015. Now it’s time to extend that equality to the community I belong to. The fetish community.
Love and live life in leather.
